I cannot login to my MT4 account on the desktop app.

If you can’t login to your MT4 account, please check the error message in the bottom right corner of the platform.

You will see one of the following error messages:

  1. Invalid account
  2. No connection
  3. Common error

1: Invalid account:

Invalid account

The ‘Invalid account’ error message means you have entered the incorrect login details.

Please type in your login details manually and double-check whether your account number and password are correct. Make sure you did not include any extra blank spaces or capitalised letters by accident.

Next, check whether you have selected the correct server – 'ThinkMarkets-Live' for a live account or 'ThinkMarkets-Demo' for a demo account. If the server address is not displayed automatically in the drop-down list, please type it in manually.

If your login details are correct, but you still get the Invalid Account error, please reset your trading account password.

2: No connection:

No connection

The ‘No connection’ error means there is no connection with the trading server.

Here are the possible reasons:

  • Poor internet connection. Please make sure you are connected to a strong and stable internet.
  • You may have selected the incorrect server's name while logging in.
To fix it, please go to ‘File’, select ‘Login to trade account’ and type in your login details manually to make sure they are correct. Next, check whether you have selected the correct server – 'ThinkMarkets-Live' for a live account or 'ThinkMarkets-Demo' for a demo account. If the server address is not displayed automatically in the drop-down list, please type it in manually.
  • The platform could not find the server.
Please click the ‘No connection’ message in the bottom right corner of the platform to open a sub-menu and select ‘Re-scan servers’.
  • You have anti-virus software or a Firewall (for example, the built-in Windows Firewall) blocking the server.
Please add the platform to your anti-virus software's list of authorised programs or disable a Firewall.

If you have tried all the above troubleshooting solutions and still receive the "No connection" error, one of the mentioned above programmes may be blocking the incoming/outgoing traffic on port 443.

To fix it, please try to select a different server from the list below. If the listed options do not appear in your server drop-down, you’ll need to add a server manually.

To do so, go to the ‘File’ tab in your top left corner, and select the ‘Open an account' tab. Then click the ‘+ add new broker’ and type in the respective server. This should fix the login issue if it's being caused by blocking the incoming/outgoing traffic on port 443.
